Relative humidity falling to between 15 and 25 percent this afternoon and southeast winds of 10 to 20 mph with some gusts up to 20 to 30 mph will result in an increased risk of fire start and spread. Please exercise caution if handling open flames or equipment that creates sparks. Dispose of cigarettes, matches, and other flammable materials in appropriate containers. Any fire that gets started could grow out of control under these conditions. West Virginia law prohibits burning in the spring from 7 AM to 5 PM...March 1st through May 31st. Overnight burning is highly discouraged at this time due to the risk of holdover embers heading into today.

Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution if handling open flames or equipment that creates sparks. Also, dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and other flammable items in appropriate containers. Keep vehicles off of dry grass and obey local burn bans. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. Minimum relative humidity between 19 and 30 percent combined with southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph, will lead to an increased risk of wildfires today. Remember that under KY law, it is illegal to burn within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland between 6 AM and 6 PM during the Spring Fire Season that runs through April 30th. West Virginia law prohibits burning in the spring from 7AM to 5PM...March 1st through May 31st.
