I-59 Southbound in Jefferson County

Weather permitting, the construction project to replace the 12th Avenue North Bridge that spans over I-59/20 just north of downtown Birmingham will continue. Tuesday, May 31 at 6 p.m. thru Saturday, June 4 at 6 a.m. the I-59/20 southbound outside 2 lanes near Milepost 127.5 will be closed each day for this work. These closures will be between Tallapoosa Street (Exit 128) and 31st Street North (Exit 126-B). - The contractor will implement double lane closures and rolling roadblocks to continue installing the steel bridge girders over the I-59/20 southbound lanes. Rolling Roadblocks with complete lane closures will be implemented every night between the hours of 11:00 p.m. to 3 a.m. to set and install the new bridge girders. Traffic will be allowed to clear every 15 minutes or less. The exit-ramp to 31st Street N (Exit 126-B) on the I-59/20 southbound roadway will remain open for traffic during the above lane closures.

On Wednesday, May 25, weather permitting, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., the Alabama Department of Transportation will close the I-59/20 northbound outside (right) shoulder at the ramp from northbound Elton B. Stevens Expressway (Milepost 126) to the Exit on 31st Street (Milepost 126.7), in Birmingham for Geotechnical Investigations. - Planned Shoulder Closure for Geotechnical Investigations, in Birmingham
I-59 Northbound in Jefferson County

Monday, May 16 at 7 p.m. thru Thursday, May 19 the I-59 northbound 2 inside lanes near Milepost 126 will be closed until approximately 7 a.m. each night. The contractor will implement the double lane closures and rolling roadblocks to continue installing the steel bridge girders over the I-59/20 northbound roadway. This closure will be between downtown Birmingham (31st Street/280 Expressway) and just north of the 31st Street N (Exit 126B) and I-59 northbound Roadway exit. - The on-ramp from 31st Street N to I-59/20 northbound will also be in a yield condition from 7 p.m. to 7a.m. each night. Motorists should use caution when merging into mainline traffic from this interstate on-ramp. Rolling Roadblocks with complete lane closures will be implemented every night between the hours of 11:00 p.m. to 3 a.m. to set and install the new bridge girders. Traffic will be allowed to clear every 15 minutes or less.

– Weather permitting, beginning Monday, May 16, the Alabama Department of Transportation will continue a project for Intersection Improvements on the I-459 Interchange (Milepost 32) and AL 7 (US 11) near Edwards Lake Road (Milepost 137.378) in Trussville as follows: - • Monday, May 16 begin asphalt paving on the northbound off ramp to US- 11 near Trussville. • Tuesday, May 17 begin asphalt paving on the northbound on ramp to I-459 to US-11. • Wednesday, May 18 begin asphalt paving on the southbound off ramp to US-11. • Thursday, May 19 begin asphalt paving on the southbound on ramp to US-11. Hours of operation for this paving is scheduled to be from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for each night scheduled. The ramps will be closed during this scheduled time. This will complete all of the asphalt paving for the project. There will be a 2 week curing period before all of the permanent striping on these ramps can be completed

This work will require the loop ramp to be closed while this area is under construction. - The ramp is expected to be opened no later than 5 a.m., Monday, May 16

On Sunday, March 20, weather conditions permitting, beginning at 8 p.m., the Alabama Department of Transportation will begin repairs to the guardrail.-65 – on the outside shoulders and median in the northbound and southbound directions from the Shelby County Line (MP 248.7) in Hoover to Fieldstown Rd. (Exit 270) in Gardendale. This work may require closure of the outside (right) and the inside (left) lanes at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made - Upon completion of all guardrail repairs on the outside (right) shoulders, the repairs will move to the inside (left) median shoulders in both the northbound/eastbound and southbound/westbound directions, which will require the inside (left) travel lane and shoulder to be closed in areas where the guardrail repairs are being made. This work may require intermittent lane closures for up to eight weeks.
