Q) How often is the map updated?
A) The traffic flow is updated at loadtime and upon movement outside the initial map view, or upon refresh of the page. Any incident markers are checked for updates approximately every 5-10 minutes, but you need to reload the page to load any new updates; the data provided may still be the same status/view as before. Information shown is as only reliable as how it is reported to us.Q) The roads are backed up or closed, but the map does not show the reason why, what's the deal?
A) Municipal traffic monitors or GPS trackers may not be available, could be offline, or reports and alerts are not syndicated to media outside of the area to use on the map. This is especially true for rural areas. You are encouraged to leave a road conditions report to help others.Q) I see traffic alerts in the box below for the state, but they aren't related to the area I'm in?
A) We attempt to display alerts as specific to the area as possible, however in some cases the data we receive will only allow us to provide it by county or even statewide.Q) Are you an official source of traffic information?
A) We are not an official source of traffic or real-time data. We have contracts and licenses to display certain up-to-date information that comes direct from some DOTs in various states, and the traffic flow on the maps is provided by Google or MapQuest. However, the data shown here should only be used for light informational and reference purposes and not to make critical decisions. Your safest option on the web is to use your state-run traffic website, or to call the DOT traffic line for your state, local authorities, or the state's 511 number if available.

Lane Closed on NC-55 In Durham
The Department is widening NC 55 (Alston Avenue) from NC 147 (I.L. 'Buck' Dean Freeway) to north of NC 98 (Holloway Street) in Durham. The project is expected to take three years to complete. Expect periodic lane closures on NC 55, NC 98, Liberty St, Main St, and Angier Ave throughout the life of the project on Monday - Friday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, and Saturday - Sunday all hours. Also expect periodic lane closures on NC 147 Monday - Friday 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM and Saturday - Sunday 8:00 PM to 10:00 AM. No lane closures are expected during holidays and other high traffic special events. Motorists are urged to be alert and drive cautiously when traveling through a work zone.

W Eva St will no longer have access to Alston Avenue starting on Monday, November 14th as part of the Alston Avenue widening project. Local traffic is to use Holloway St or Liberty St to Elm St in order to access Eva St.

Road Closed with Detour on NC-55 In Durham
Taylor Street from NC 55/Alston Avenue to North Holman Street will be closed starting Saturday, June 10th for water and sewer utility construction. The road is expected to be closed for approximately two months during the school summer break. Local school and resident traffic will be maintained throughout the closure.
DETOUR: Alston Avenue to Liberty Street to North Hyde Park Avenue to Taylor Street

Ramp Closed on I-40 In Durham
Construction crews will be replacing two joints of the ramp from I-40 EB to I-540 EB
DETOUR: -40 East traffic will be detoured during the full closure. Drivers can use exit 279 to go onto southbound N.C. 147, and then take exit one for I-540 East. That is part of the Triangle Expressway but tolls will be waived during the closure for that stretch of N.C. 147. However, tolls will remain in place for vehicles that go onto N.C. 540 South. Traffic entering eastbound I-40 beyond Exit 279 can detour onto exit 283, then take I-540 West to the exit at N.C. 54, make a left turn at the light and then another left turn to get to I-540 East. Motorists could also continue on I-40 East past the closed ramp and use northbound Airport Boulevard (exit 284-B) or Aviation Parkway (exit 285) to get to I-540 near RDU Airport. Drivers need to pay extra attention to detour signs as they choose which route to use to get around the ramp closure.

Lane Closed on I-40 In Durham
Construction crews will be performing work on the joints of the ramp from I-40 EB to I-540 EB in preparation for the upcoming weekend closure of the ramp from 10:00 PM on Friday, 6/30/17, through 7:00 AM on Wednesday, 7/5/17.
DETOUR: I-40 East traffic will be detoured during the full closure. Drivers can use exit 279 to go onto southbound N.C. 147, and then take exit one for I-540 East.
