Q) How often is the map updated?
A) The traffic flow is updated at loadtime and upon movement outside the initial map view, or upon refresh of the page. Any incident markers are checked for updates approximately every 5-10 minutes, but you need to reload the page to load any new updates; the data provided may still be the same status/view as before. Information shown is as only reliable as how it is reported to us.

Q) The roads are backed up or closed, but the map does not show the reason why, what's the deal?
A) Municipal traffic monitors or GPS trackers may not be available, could be offline, or reports and alerts are not syndicated to media outside of the area to use on the map. This is especially true for rural areas. You are encouraged to leave a road conditions report to help others.

Q) I see traffic alerts in the box below for the state, but they aren't related to the area I'm in?
A) We attempt to display alerts as specific to the area as possible, however in some cases the data we receive will only allow us to provide it by county or even statewide.

Q) Are you an official source of traffic information?
A) We are not an official source of traffic or real-time data. We have contracts and licenses to display certain up-to-date information that comes direct from some DOTs in various states, and the traffic flow on the maps is provided by Google or MapQuest. However, the data shown here should only be used for light informational and reference purposes and not to make critical decisions. Your safest option on the web is to use your state-run traffic website, or to call the DOT traffic line for your state, local authorities, or the state's 511 number if available.

Taos Traffic Alerts
Title: New Mexico 516, 2.1 miles West of Aztec at mile marker 12
Description: NM 516 - This Project is located in Aztec, NM San Juan County at mile post 12.97 at the intersection of NM 516 and NM 574. San Juan - The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) began construction on the intersection rehabilitation of NM 516 and NM 574 (Light Plant Rd.) September 2013. The intersection improvement project will consist of roadway reconstruction, new curb & gutter with sidewalk, new manhole and storm drain inlet structures, permanent signing, striping, signalization and lighting. Traffic Impacts: The Project will be partially suspended for the winter months. During this time, the intersection and all lanes will be opened to the public with the exception of the utility construction work that will require minor traffic impacts. Project will resume full construction in spring of 2014, weather permitting.

Title: US 60, 5 miles East of Fort Sumner at mile marker 332

Title: US 82 from mile marker 35 to 18 miles East of Mayhill at mile marker 43
Description: The US Forest Service roadway construction has been suspended through the winter months. All lanes are open to traffic with no restrictions. Construction is expected to resume in June 2014. Contractor Mesa Verde Enterprises Superintendent, Daniel Lurtsema 575-491-3048.

Title: US 380 at mile marker 52
Description: White Sands Missile Range periodically has missile firings over US 70 and/or US 380. During the firings the road or roads will be temporarily closed. Please call 575-678-1178 for daily information on possible closure dates and times for firings. This is a permanent alert and will not be updated regularly. (dm)

Title: US 82 at Cloudcroft
Description: US 82 between Cloudcroft and Alamogordo descends 5,000 feet in 16 miles! Steep grades, numerous tight turns and one tunnel! Trucks without retarder brakes and/or longer than 65 feet in length PROHIBITED on this section of US 82. Consider using an alternative route – US 62/180 or US70 This is a permanent alert. (dm)

Title: Interstate 10 eastbound and westbound from 0.5 miles North of MESQUITE exit at mile marker 151 to VADO exit at mile marker 155
Description: The NMDOT with El Terrero Construction begin consturction of the crossovers along I-10, which will require traffic to be reduced from 3 lanes down to 2 lanes. Motorists will be alerted of reduction in speed throughout the work zone as heavy equipment and workers are present. Proceed with caution.

Title: New Mexico 528 northbound and southbound from mile marker 7 to mile marker 9
Description: Project A300380 / N_M 528 Southern to Sundt/ Roadway Rehabilitation (Patsy Najar/ Project Manager/Albuquerque Underground Inc.) • Monday 4/21 through Friday 4/25 – Eastlake at N_M 5_28 will be closed. • Tuesday 4/22 through Friday 5/2 from 9 am to 3 pm - N_M 5_28 (DeArco Highway) both directions will from Sundt to Leon Grande will be reduced to one lane only. • Ongoing through Monday 11/17 from 9 am to 3 pm and 8 pm to 6 am each day - N_M 5_28 (DeArco Highway) both directions will have various lane closures for roadway construction.
