Strong thunderstorms may affect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness tonight. The storms may produce gusty winds, small hail, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and locally heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms could happen as early as 9 PM today with the most likely time for thunderstorms between 11 PM tonight and 5 AM early Monday morning. Now is the time to prepare in case thunderstorms threaten. Campers should take extra precautions in order to secure campsites and make a plan in case of severe weather. In case of lightning, sit on your personal floatation devices or sleeping pads to minimize your risk to lightning. Monitor NOAA Weather Radio for updates and possible warnings.

Incoming waves in rapid succession can tire even an experienced swimmer quickly. Rip currents can usher you away from land. To avoid being swept away, swim parallel to the shore to exit a rip current.
