Current National Weather
The next couple of days will be quite stormy as Potential Tropical Cyclone One, a developing storm near the Texas Gulf Coast, brings heavy rainfall. Expect rain totals of 5 to 10 inches, with some areas seeing up to 20 inches. This extensive rain could lead to flash flooding. The center of the storm is predicted to hit southwestern Louisiana tonight and continue moving inland, dissipating by Thursday morning but leaving behind significant rain as it moves across the Southeast.
Midwest and Ohio Valley: Prepare for an outbreak of severe thunderstorms today, especially in central Illinois and northwestern Indiana. There will be a strong push of moisture, leading to storms with large hail (up to 2.5 inches), damaging winds reaching 80 mph, and potentially powerful tornadoes. These storms will also bring heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flash flooding, particularly near the Great Lakes.
Mid-Atlantic and Northeast: On Thursday, we will feel the heat as temperatures climb into the 90s and even hit the lower 100s. This heat could break some records! Be prepared for possible severe thunderstorms as a cold front moves in, bringing cooler air by Friday morning, especially in the Northeast and Great Lakes.
Western U.S.: Things are staying mostly calm, but it will be hot with temperatures in the 100s in the Great Basin and 110s in the Desert Southwest. The central to southern High Plains will also see triple-digit temperatures before a cold front arrives on Thursday.
