The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Fire Weather Watch for gusty winds and potentially dry fuels, which is in effect from Monday afternoon through Monday evening. * AFFECTED AREA...In Minnesota, North St. Louis, Northern Cook and Lake and Central St. Louis. * WINDS...West 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 35 percent. * TEMPERATURES...Up to 85. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

In Wisconsin, Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Sawyer, and Washburn Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Fond du Lac Band, the Bad River Reservation, the Red Cliff Band, the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, the St. Croix Band in Burnett County, the Mille Lacs Band, East Lake, Hinckley, Lena Lake and, Big Sandy Lake areas and the Bois Forte Band, Deer Creek, Nett Lake and, Lake Vermilion areas. Dry conditions and occasionally breezy winds will lead to near critical fire weather conditions today. Southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph with gusts of 15 to 20 mph are forecast for this afternoon. Minimum relative humidity values of 35 to 45 percent are also expected. Together, these conditions could lead to the rapid spread of fires. Check burning restrictions and fire danger before burning. * WHAT...The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has expanded an Air Quality Alert for fine particles pollution further west. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to reach the Red or Unhealthy category. * WHERE...East central, southeast, south central, and northeast Minnesota. * WHEN...Until 11 AM CDT Monday. * IMPACTS...Some members of the general public may experience health effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, may experience health effects. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heavy smoke has expanded further west into east central and south central Minnesota this morning. While some improvement is possible this afternoon across these areas, additional heavy smoke is forecast to move in from the south this evening and persist through Monday morning. Southeast Minnesota will remain in heavy smoke through Monday morning. As for northeastern Minnesota, increasing southwesterly winds through the day will lead to improved air quality for many throughout the afternoon, though areas near the shores of Lake Superior and the wildfires themselves may continue to experience poor air quality until the early evening. Only localized poor air quality will exist thereafter. Red, meaning unhealthy for everyone, is the expected AQI category for all portions of this alert.

A bit warmer today with afternoon highs 85 to 90 with lowest RH values in the 35 to 40 percent range. This along with a southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, gusts 20 mph will lead to near critical fire weather conditions once again thru early evening.
