Wet Weekend Brings Flooding to Southern California While Southern Plains Heat Up
Updated Fri Nov 14th 2025, 12:42pm PST

We're in for some wild weather this weekend. Southern California is bracing for heavy rain and potential flooding, especially on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Southern Plains will experience exceptionally warm temperatures. Stay informed and prepared as these weather patterns take center stage in the coming days.

Big Rain and Flooding for Southern California

This weekend, an upper-level low is moving slowly along the California coast, bringing an atmospheric river, which is a huge stream of moisture, from the Pacific Ocean. This is causing heavy rain and strong winds in Los Angeles, CA and surrounding areas. We're looking at widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches, with some mountain areas getting over 6 inches by the end of Sunday. Be cautious of flash flooding and debris flows, especially in burn scar areas in Santa Barbara, CA, Ventura, CA, and Los Angeles, CA. High-altitude regions of the Sierra Nevada can expect over a foot of snow, making travel tough.

Heat Wave in the Southern Plains

In the Southern Plains, warm air is bringing near-record high temperatures. If you're in Dallas, TX or Oklahoma City, OK, prepare for a summery weekend. While northern areas like Lincoln, NE cool behind a cold front, temperatures will stay above normal. Keep an eye out for Red Flag Warnings in places like Rapid City, SD, which means fire danger due to dry and windy conditions.

Chilly Weather in the Northeast

As the weekend unfolds, a weather front will move eastward, bringing scattered showers and possibly thunderstorms to the Upper Ohio Valley on Saturday. By Sunday, a mix of rain and snow could impact the Northeast, particularly in places like Albany, NY. Rain will turn to snow over the Great Lakes with blustery winds.

Mixed Weather for the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic

The Mid-Atlantic and Southeast will see above-normal temperatures, with highs reaching into the 70s. By late Sunday, a cold front will bring scattered showers and maybe a storm or two, so folks in Raleigh, NC, and Atlanta, GA, should stay prepared.

Showers Persist in the Pacific Northwest

Meanwhile, up in the Pacific Northwest, rain will continue slowly tapering off over the weekend. Cities like Seattle, WA will see lingering showers but expect improvements by Sunday.
