Current National Weather
Get ready for an active weather weekend! California will see heavy mountain snow in the Sierra Nevada with up to several feet, while lower regions get drenched with 1 to 2 inches of rain. An unsettled pattern will stretch from the Great Basin to the Northern High Plains. The Central Plains will face severe thunderstorms today, with heavy rain moving to the Southern High Plains on Saturday. Warm air will surge from the central U.S. to New England, bringing a round of rain ahead of a frontal boundary.
Western U.S. - Friday to Sunday
Expect a lot of activity with two low pressure systems coming from the Pacific. This will result in significant snowfall in the Sierra Nevada over the weekend, with lower areas experiencing heavy rain. The Great Basin and Rockies will also see snow at higher elevations. Warmer temperatures will accompany these conditions inland, though California will remain cooler due to clouds and precipitation.
Central and Eastern U.S. - Friday to Sunday
A front stretching from the Central Plains to the Northeast will allow warm air to move north, particularly affecting the Northeast. Rain will travel from the Ohio Valley to New England, followed by a cooldown. Severe thunderstorms with heavy rain will affect the Central Plains today, moving to the Southern High Plains by Saturday. More thunderstorms could develop in the Midwest Saturday night as warm air advances.
Temperature Trends
Most of the central and eastern U.S. will warm significantly, with temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above normal, particularly in the Plains and Southeast. In contrast, California will cool down due to incoming storms, while the Northeast and Great Lakes recover to normal temperatures after a cool period.
