An Increased Fire Danger statement is in effect for all of Eastern North Carolina from mid morning today into this evening due to low relative humidity values around 25 to 30 percent, ongoing moderate drought conditions, increasingly receptive fuels, and westerly winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts approaching 30 mph. Outdoor burning is discouraged. Please refer to your local burn permitting authority on whether you can burn. If you do burn, use extreme caution and ensure fire suppression equipment is readily available.

The combination of low relative humidity values of 22 to 30 percent, ongoing drought conditions, dry fine fuels, and frequent wind gusts up to 20 to 30 mph will produce an increased fire danger across eastern portions of central North Carolina today. Outdoor burning is discouraged. Please consult your local burn permitting authorities as to whether burning is allowed today. If you must burn, use extreme caution, as fires can spread rapidly under these conditions.

Coastal Flood Advisory issued November 11 at 3:19AM EST until November 11 at 7:00PM EST by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC

* WHAT...Up to 1 foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near soundside shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...Soundside locations along the Croatan, and Roanoke Sounds, near Manteo, Kitty Hawk Bay, soundside areas along the Pamlico Sound from Hatteras Island north, and adjacent tidal creeks. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EST this evening. * IMPACTS...Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong westerly winds of 25 to 35 mph will bring the threat of coastal flooding of up to 1 foot above ground level along soundside locations. Greatest impacts will likely be felt early this morning and this afternoon with the threat diminishing early this evening as the winds decrease.

Although snow showers will taper off around daybreak, slippery road conditions are expected in the mountains this morning, especially across areas that received accumulating snowfall in the last 24 hours and with below freezing temperatures in place. Temperatures will remain below freezing across the mountains through the morning hours, rising above freezing this afternoon across the lower elevations. Temperatures across the higher elevations will likely remain near or below freezing through tonight, keeping slippery road conditions around. With temperatures expected to fall back below freezing across the lower elevations this evening into Wednesday morning, black ice could become a concern for the evening commute as well as the Wednesday morning commute depending on how much snow melts today. For the morning and evening commute, be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and allow for plenty of space between yourself and other vehicles if snow covered or icy roads are encountered.

Snow showers are possible tonight through Tuesday morning. Affected locations may see any bridges, walkways, and perhaps a few roads become icy once precipitation begins to fall and temperatures drop overnight. The first snow of the season is usually the most impactful for drivers. Slick spots will likely develop on roadways, especially bridges and overpasses. If you are traveling and encounter adverse winter driving conditions, reduce speed and make sure headlights are on.
