Following the passage of a dry cold front through the area today, relative humidity values are falling into the range of 25 to 35 percent across much of eastern North Carolina. This very dry air combined with winds gusting to 25 to 35 mph will bring an increased risk of fire danger through early this evening. Any fires could quickly spread out of control. Outdoor burning is discouraged today. Consult your local burn- permitting authority to determine whether you may burn outdoors. If you do conduct any outdoor burning, exercise extreme caution.

..INCREASED FIRE DANGER IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA... Following the passage of a dry cold front, minimum relative humidity values have fallen to 25% to 30% across most of interior northeast North Carolina. West to northwest winds gusting to between 25 and 35 mph through the early evening, which will be conducive for the quick formation and spread of fires. Residents are urged to exercise caution handling any potential ignition source...including machinery... cigarettes...and matches. Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly.

Following the passage of a dry cold front later this morning, relative humidity will fall into the 20 to 30 percent range across the North Carolina Piedmont and foothills this afternoon. Winds will gust in the 20 to 25 mph range from the west and northwest throughout the day. Fine fuel moisture is expected to dry out quickly during the late morning and early afternoon. These conditions will be conducive for the quick formation and spread of wildfires. Based upon coordination with local land managers and forestry officials, a Fire Danger Statement remains in effect for NC Forest Service Districts 2, 10, and 12. Consult your local burn- permitting authority to determine whether you may burn outdoors. If you do burn, exercise extreme caution.

A cold front moving through this afternoon will bring dry air and gusty northwest winds up to 35 mph behind it. Relative humidity will fall into the mid 20s to around 30 percent west of highway 17. The gusty winds and low relative humidities will be conducive for the quick formation and spread of fires over a region that has experienced below average rainfall as of late. Outdoor burning is discouraged. Please refer to your local burn permitting authority on whether you can burn. If you do burn, use extreme caution and ensure fire suppression equipment is readily available.
