How to use the Butler Traffic Map
A static map with traffic flow is shown first and to start using the interactive map you press the blue Load button above to go live.

Traffic flow lines: Red/White dashed lines = Closed Road, Grey/White dashed lines = Road Work, Red lines = Heavy traffic flow, Yellow/Orange lines = Medium flow, and Green = normal traffic. Black lines or no traffic flow lines could indicate a closed road, but in most cases it means that either there is not enough vehicle flow to register or traffic isn't monitored. Also, if you do not see traffic flow, you can zoom in closer to reveal localized data. If you are unable to pan the map, press here (to focus off of the map) and try again.

Traffic Incidents: Each icon represents a traffic event or incident such as road construction, closure (red circle with a white dash), or accident. In some regions there may also be live traffic camaras to view.

In known extreme weather events or accidents, the map may still show green lines, even if lanes or the entire road are closed.

Winter Weather Brings Travel Challenges Across Multiple Regions
Updated Thu Jan 22nd 2026, 3:01am PST

Winter weather is set to impact travel across multiple regions over the next few days. The interior Northeast to northern and central New England will see scattered snow squalls throughout Thursday and Friday, causing dangerous driving conditions. Meanwhile, the Great Plains and Eastern U.S. will face a blast of dangerously cold Arctic air with severe wind chills extending through the weekend. Additionally, a major winter storm is expected to bring crippling ice and sleet to the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley on Friday, leading to risky travel and potential power outages.

Northeast Snow Squalls

On Thursday and continuing into Friday, snow squalls will make travel hazardous across the New York State Thruway (I-90), as well as western portions of Interstate 87 through Upstate New York. As the snow squalls progress into northern and central New England, expect delays along major routes like Interstate 91 and Interstate 95. Snow-covered roads and low visibility will create challenging driving conditions, so please drive cautiously, slow down, and use your headlights.

Great Plains and Eastern U.S. Arctic Blast

Starting today, dangerously cold Arctic air will descend over the Interstate 94 corridor through the Northern Plains, extending into the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes. By tonight, this frigid air mass will impact the Interstate 70 and Interstate 40 corridors in the Southern Plains and Midwest. Wind chills could drop to life-threatening levels, posing a risk of hypothermia and frostbite. Extreme cold warnings are in effect, so prepare for potential delays and ensure you have emergency supplies in your vehicle.

Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley Winter Storm

On Friday, a major winter storm is expected to bring ice and sleet to the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley. This storm will heavily impact the Interstate 35 and Interstate 20 corridors, leading to treacherous road conditions and potential road closures. Significant ice accumulations could cause extended power outages and dangerous travel conditions. If you must travel, be prepared for delays and consider alternative routes to avoid impacted areas.
