Special Weather Statement issued February 29 at 5:33AM CST by NWS La Crosse WI

A very dry airmass is in place and the combination of low humidities, warming temperatures, gusty south winds, and relatively dry fuels will result in elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions this afternoon. Afternoon relative humidity values are expected to fall to 20 to 30 percent with south winds gusting from 20 to 35 mph. Under these conditions, once the grasses dry out, fires could start and spread easily. Exercise caution with any activities that involve outdoor fires or create sparks.
