Special Weather Statement issued December 5 at 1:43AM EST by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC

Following the passage of a dry cold front later this morning, relative humidity will fall into the low 30s and even upper 20s in some locations across the North Carolina Piedmont and Foothills this afternoon. Winds will be gusty along and behind the front, so conditions will be conducive meteorologically for the quick formation and spread of fires. Fine fuel moisture is expected to dry out quickly during the late morning and early afternoon. Based upon coordination with local land managers and forestry officials, a Fire Danger Statement is in effect for NC Forest Service Districts 2 and 10. Consult your local burn-permitting authority to determine whether you may burn outdoors. If you do burn, exercise extreme caution.

In Virginia, Amherst, Bedford, Patrick, and Franklin Counties. * WHEN...Until 4 PM EST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. * WHAT...Up to 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways adjacent to the Pamlico Sound. * WHERE...Areas along Croatan, and Roanoke Sounds, Kitty Hawk Bay, and Pamlico Sound, and adjacent tidal creeks. * WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 4 PM EST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Up to 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways resulting in a low threat of property damage. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes adjacent to the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
