...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in New Mexico... Rio Chama Below Chamita affecting Rio Arriba County. .Snow melt and increased reservoir releases will cause the river flows to become high. Expect minor flooding downstream from the dam. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast from snow melt and water release. * WHERE...Rio Chama below Chamita. * WHEN...From Tuesday morning until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 6.0 feet, PROPERTIES IN FLOOD PLAIN ALONG RIO CHAMA AND NEAR THE JUNCTION OF RIO OJO CALIENTE WILL SEE WATER IN THEIR YARDS. BANK EROSION IS POSSIBLE. DAMAGE TO WELLS AND SEPTIC TANKS IS POSSIBLE. THESE IMPACTS WILL INCREASE IN SEVERITY AT HIGHER LEVELS. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 9:00 PM MDT Monday the stage was 5.7 feet. - Bankfull stage is 5.5 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage tomorrow morning and continue rising to a crest of 6.2 feet early Wednesday afternoon. - Flood stage is 6.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 6.1 feet on 07/26/2001. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Expect elevated flows downstream from the dam. * WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt continues. * WHERE...Rio Chama below Chamita. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 5.5 feet, the Rio Chama is bankfull. Properties immediately adjacent to the river upstream of the bridge on SR-74 and especially near the junction with the Rio Ojo Caliente may see water encroach onto low lying areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 6:00 AM MDT Monday the stage was 5.6 feet. - Bankfull stage is 5.5 feet. - Forecast...The river will rise to 5.9 feet Wednesday morning. It will then fall to 5.8 feet early Thursday morning. It will rise to 5.9 feet early Thursday afternoon. It will then fall to 5.8 feet Thursday evening. It will rise to 5.9 feet Friday evening.
