Flood Warning

Flood Warning issued May 26 at 12:31PM AKDT until May 29 at 2:15PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK

* WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt continues. * WHERE...Porcupine River near Fort Yukon. * WHEN...Until 215 PM AKDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Flooding is occuring in sloughs and other low-lying areas on the east side of Fort Yukon. The water level in Fort Yukon will crest early next week. Flooding will continue into the middle of next week with the water receding very slowly next week. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 100 PM AKDT Friday, a river observer reported flooding of sloughs, low areas and some low lying roads east of Fort Yukon. The observer reported that the water was rising rapidly and was 6 inches to 1 ft below low section of the runway in Fort Yukon. Over the weekend, satellite and gages continue to show high water upstream on the Porcupine. * WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam continues to be possible. * WHERE...Yukon River in the Yukon Delta. * WHEN...Through Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Ice jams may result in flooding along the Yukon River over the Yukon Delta. Low lying areas near Nunam Iqua and Kotlik have potential to flood through Sunday. If an ice jam shifts water could rise rapidly. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - The Yukon River breakup is pushing across the Yukon Delta. Ice has jammed up near Kotlik with high water on the river but no flooding reports in Kotlik.
