Storms to Hit Northern Plains and South with Heavy Rain: 08-28 to 08-30
From Friday through Sunday, expect a mix of thunderstorms and heavy rain across several parts of the U.S. The Northern Plains, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast are in for some stormy weather, with the potential for flash floods in urban areas. Meanwhile, parts of the Southwest will see monsoon rains, and the Pacific Northwest will experience some rain due to coastal winds.
CONUS — Northern Plains & Great Basin: Friday and Saturday will bring strong thunderstorms due to a stationary front extending from the Northern Plains to Northern California. These storms generally form in the late afternoon and evening when the sun heats the surface.
Southern Mid-Atlantic & Southeast: Expect showers and thunderstorms from Friday through Sunday, thanks to a stationary front and moisture-laden air. Heavy rain raises the risk of flash flooding, especially in cities and areas with poor drainage.
Southwest: Monsoon patterns will continue to affect the area with showers and thunderstorms from late Friday through Saturday, possibly causing localized flash floods.
Upper Mississippi Valley & Upper Great Lakes: Upper-level weather patterns will bring rain and thunderstorms from Friday through Sunday.
Pacific Northwest: Onshore winds and higher energy levels will cause rain on Friday and Saturday. Don't forget your raincoat if you're heading out!
