Midwest to Southeast: Over the Labor Day weekend, thunderstorms could be severe from the Midwest across the Ohio Valley, and into the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Watch out for heavy rain and a slight chance of flash flooding, especially near the Mid-Atlantic coast this afternoon into Sunday.

Western U.S.: A front moving through might cause heavy rain in Utah on Sunday. The rain can be intense, especially in urban areas and where the ground is prone to flooding, like dry washes and burn scars.
Heat and Cool Balance
Midsection of the Country: The Nation's Heartland will continue to experience oppressive heat with heat indices up to 110 degrees. Temperatures will remain high during the day and night.
Northeast: Cooler air is finally making its way here, providing a break from the heat. Expect chillier mornings with lows in the 40s and 50s and daytime highs between the mid-70s and low 80s.
Showers and Thunderstorms
Northwestern U.S.: A deep upper low brings showers and storms as it moves inland. Temperatures here will be 10 to 20 degrees cooler than normal, with freezing conditions at higher elevations.
Northern Plains: Thunderstorms are brewing around a strengthening low-pressure system, particularly affecting the northern High Plains in the latter half of the weekend.
