There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms, possibly packing strong winds, lightning, and hail. Areas to watch include Minneapolis, MN and Madison, WI. Why rain? Southwest Soaking
Parts of the Southwest will experience heavy rains starting Friday and into Saturday. Flash floods are a concern, especially in Phoenix, AZ and Las Vegas, NV. With burn scars in the area, be cautious as they are more prone to flooding. Rain is happening due to the moisture-laden air from the southwest.
Weekend Deluge for the East
By Saturday, showers will spread over the Ohio Valley, Central Appalachians, and Mid-Atlantic. Look out for potential flash flooding in spots like Cincinnati, OH and Charleston, WV. The cause? A front is lifting north, bringing moisture and instability. Later, this system will move into the Northeast by Sunday.
Rain Heads to the Plains
On Sunday, expect showers and thunderstorms in the Northern/Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley, possibly affecting Kansas City, MO and Des Moines, IA. Rain is due to another approaching front, mixing with moist air.
Southern Drizzles
Saturday will also see showers from the Southern Mid-Atlantic down to Florida and stretching west to the Middle/Lower Mississippi Valley. Areas like Atlanta, GA and New Orleans, LA might experience some rain, with embedded thunderstorms possible, especially near the Gulf Coast.
