Southwest and Central Plains Brace for Heavy Rainfall - 09-24 to 09-26
CONUS — This week, New Mexico and Texas will see heavy rain, making flooded areas a high concern due to already wet ground. The East Coast is gearing up for a strong coastal storm bringing wind, rain, and flooding from the Mid-Atlantic to New England. Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest will experience showers, and snow is possible in the mountains.
New Mexico and Texas are seeing more rain because of tropical moisture coming from the southwest. This will cause showers and thunderstorms, particularly on Thursday. Watch for flash flooding due to already soaked soils. On Friday, heavy rain will move towards the Midwest, continuing the threat of flash floods.
Over on the East Coast, an incoming coastal low will bring strong winds and rain from the Mid-Atlantic up through New England by the weekend. Showers will start Thursday and become more intense by Friday night, potentially leading to coastal flooding and dangerous beach conditions.
In the Pacific Northwest, look for rain to begin late Thursday as a Pacific weather system moves in, affecting Washington and Oregon, and extending into the Northern Rockies by Friday. Snow may fall in higher mountain areas due to the arrival of cooler air.
