CONUS — A strong Nor'easter is set to impact the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast this weekend, bringing with it heavy rain, high winds, and coastal flooding. Meanwhile, parts of the Southern High Plains and Southern New England should prepare for excessive rainfall.
Mid-Atlantic and Northeast
This weekend, a Nor'easter will develop off the East Coast as cold air mixes with warm Atlantic waters. Expect strong winds over 50 mph, heavy rain, and coastal flooding from Friday into Sunday. These conditions could lead to power outages and dangerous surf along the coast. Rain is likely to expand from southern New England to the Mid-Atlantic, increasing the risk of inland flooding. The worst conditions are expected to linger into Sunday. Cold air from the north combined with the storm's path will ensure rain instead of snow for most areas.
Southern High Plains and New England
On Friday, heavy rain and thunderstorms will sweep across the Southern High Plains, raising concerns for flash flooding, especially in urban areas and places with burn scars. This heavy rainfall threat diminishes by Saturday, but showers and storms will still occur in parts of the Southern Rockies and Central Plains. Meanwhile, Southern New England will see a similar risk of excessive rainfall on both Saturday and Sunday.
Pacific Northwest and Northern Intermountain Region
A frontal system will move through on Friday, bringing rain and occasional thunderstorms to the Pacific Northwest and Northern Intermountain areas. The highest elevations might even see some snow.
