Hurricane Isaias Impacting the Gulf Coast; Heavy Rains Expected in Southern California - 10-09 to 10-11
CONUS — A serious situation is unfolding as Hurricane Isaias makes its way toward the eastern Gulf coast on Friday, expected to bring strong winds and flooding from the Florida Panhandle to parts of Alabama and Georgia. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Rachel could bring heavy rain and potential flooding to Southern California and the Southwest starting late Saturday. Additionally, a significant pattern change will bring cooler weather to the West, ending the ongoing heatwave, and possible snow in the Northern Rockies on Saturday.
Friday's Weather
Hurricane Isaias will begin its impact on the Gulf coast. Expect strong winds and heavy rain moving from the eastern Gulf Coastal area into the Tennessee Valley and Southern Appalachians. Coastal areas, especially the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama, will experience storm surges and potential flooding.
Saturday & Sunday Outlook
The remains of Hurricane Isaias will travel northeast, impacting the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic regions, although the storm will weaken over time. As for Tropical Storm Rachel, its moisture will start affecting Southern California, the Southwest, and the Great Basin with potential for heavy rains and flooding. This is due to increased moisture levels from the storm.
Western Weather Changes
California's heatwave will come to an end as cooler temperatures move in from the Pacific Northwest. Temperatures will drop across the region, leading to much cooler weather by Sunday. Northern Rockies in Montana may even see early season snowfall due to the cold air settling in.
