Wet Weekend Ahead for the Midwest and South

CONUS — We're looking at a wet and stormy weekend for parts of the U.S., with showers and storms expected from the Great Lakes down to the Mid-South. A low pressure system over the Dakotas is moving northeast, affecting areas in the Upper Midwest and western Great Lakes. By Saturday, another system will develop over Wisconsin and Michigan, bringing more rain from Arkansas to eastern Michigan, with the heaviest rain expected from central Illinois to northern Indiana. We could see 1-3 inches of rain here, which might cause some flooding.

In the ArkLaTex region to western Kentucky, be prepared for severe storms on Saturday. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk warning, meaning we might see damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes. Meanwhile, a Marginal Risk extends into the Ohio Valley.

For the rest of the country, cool and crisp weather will round out the work week in the east, with frost and freeze warnings in parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. In Montana, watch for high winds Saturday night due to a strong storm from the Pacific, with rain and mountain snow hitting Washington state by Saturday afternoon. The Southwest and East Coast will stay dry as high pressure dominates through Saturday.
