Tropical Waves and Regional Impacts - 08-29 to 08-31

Tropical Storm Belt — Here's what we can expect over the next few days: Mexico and northern Central America will see a mix of conditions with light to moderate rainfall mainly in the southwest. The Caribbean will experience stable weather with the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly potentially increasing rain by Sunday. Meanwhile, South Central America and northern South America will have heavy rain in Costa Rica and Panama due to tropical waves.

Mexico and Northern Central America

For those in Mexico, the weekend will bring light to moderate rainfall mainly in regions from Jalisco to Oaxaca. This is due to the combined impact of tropical waves and a ridge in the atmosphere that covers central parts of the country. In Central America, expect minimal rain despite passing tropical waves, leading to mostly dry conditions in Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, and northern Nicaragua.

Caribbean Highlights

The Caribbean will largely feel dry due to strong high-pressure systems. The tropical wave near the Leeward Islands is expected to bring minor rainfall, but the region should remain stable. By Sunday, the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly may bring heavier rains to the northeastern Caribbean, especially across the Lesser Antilles, with potential rainfalls of 25 to 50mm.

South Central America and Northern South America

In South Central America and northern South America, prepare for heavy rain on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and Panama on Friday. By Saturday and Sunday, expect continued heavy moisture from westerly onshore flows impacting Costa Rica, Panama, and west Colombia with significant rainfall potential.
