Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement issued March 22 at 5:56AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV

The combination of low relative humidity and gusty winds will create an increased risk for fire start and spread this afternoon and evening. Many areas have had moderate to poor humidity recovery overnight. Today, we can expect relative humidity values as low as 25 to 35 percent and southwest to westerly winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts of 20 to 25 mph tomorrow afternoon. Any ignition source may quickly get out of control given the gusty winds. For your safety and the safety of others, you are urged to avoid outdoor burning. The Spring fire season for Kentucky runs from February 15th through April 30th. During this time...it is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland between the hours of 6 am to 6 pm.

Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement issued March 22 at 4:20AM EDT by NWS Jackson KY

The combination of drying fuels, southwesterly winds gusting to between 15 and 25 mph, and relative humidity bottoming out in the 27 to 32 percent range will result in an increased risk of wildfires through this evening. The strongest winds will generally be near and west of Interstate 75 and also near and north of Interstate 64, while the lowest humidities will be in the more eastern and southern parts of the area. Remember that Kentucky regulations make it illegal to burn between the hours of 6 AM and 6 PM EDT within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland during the Spring Forest Fire Hazard Season.
