At 1024 PM EDT, Flash flooding is lingering throughout the warned area as excessive runoff continued, the result of rainfall totals as much as 4.5 to 5 inches across the southwest and south sides of Charlotte earlier this evening. Many locales within the Steele, Sugar, Little Sugar, Briar and Mcalpine basins remained in flood, with scattered flooding of structures reported along with several roads closed in the area. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Uptown Charlotte, Central Charlotte, South Charlotte, Southwest Charlotte, East Charlotte, Northeast Charlotte, Northwest Charlotte, Mint Hill, Pineville, Freedom Park, Southpark Mall, The Plaza, The Arboretum, Hidden Valley, Carowinds, Steele Creek and Lake Wylie.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of central North Carolina, including the following county, Stanly. * WHEN...Until midnight EDT tonight. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. River or stream flows are elevated, especially along the Rocky River and its tributaries. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1007 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Albemarle, Badin Lake, Plyler, Locust, Badin, Richfield, New London, Finger, and Morrow Mountain State Park.
