* WHAT...South winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts of up to 40 to 50 mph expected. * WHERE...NW Kenai Peninsula and SW Kenai Peninsula. * WHEN...Until noon AKDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and a few power outages may result. Trees are still mostly green and fully leafed, causing them to be more vulnerable to damage from the strong winds. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong fall storm moving into the western coast of Alaska will produce strong and gusty southerly winds moving up the Cook Inlet starting this afternoon and persisting into tomorrow morning. The strongest winds will be focused along the coast from Anchor Point north to Kenai and Nikiski. The gusty southerly winds will continue through late tomorrow morning before slowly diminishing later in the afternoon.

Trees are still mostly green and fully leafed, causing them to be more vulnerable to damage from the strong winds. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Southeast winds have been limited mostly to south and west Anchorage today, with gusts of 30 to 35 mph reported at Ted Stevens and Lake Hood Airports. However, winds are still forecast to turn out of the south and spread into the rest of the Anchorage Bowl by this evening. Gusty southerly winds will continue through late tomorrow morning before slowly diminishing through tomorrow afternoon.

Flood Advisory issued September 15 at 3:22PM AKDT until September 15 at 10:00PM AKDT by NWS Anchorage AK

* WHAT...Flooding caused by onshore flow restricting Kuskokwim River drainage in combination with excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Kuskokwim near Bethel. * WHEN...Until 1000 PM AKDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. River or stream flows are elevated. Ponding of water in areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - As of 318 PM AKDT, water levels remain above minor flood stage, with a reading of 9 ft at 250 PM AKDT. Water levels are receding. River gauge reports indicate rises in water levels from the Kuskokwim River back-up in combination with heavy rain across the advisory area. This is causing minor flooding from overflow of poor drainage areas, especially along the Kuskokwim. - Strong onshore winds along the Kuskokwim coast have limited the ability for the Kuskokwim River to drain out into the Bering Sea. This has caused rapid river rises along the coast and inland into Bethel. Water levels are expected to back up along Brown Slough and flood low lying areas of Bethel and areas along the Kuskokwim. - For Kuskokwim River at Bethel: At 2:50pm the reading was 9.0 feet. Flood Stage is 8.5 feet. Impacts: At 7.0 feet: Action and bankfull stage. At 8.5 feet: Minor flood stage. Water starts to back up along Brown Slough and flood low lying areas. ESFAFC Locations: * Willow and Talkeetna * Rivers, creeks, and streams with headwaters along the western Talkeetna Mountains Timing: * Now through Wednesday (tomorrow) afternoon. Heaviest rainfall expected from now through about midnight tonight. Rainfall: * The heaviest rain is ongoing. However, an estimated 1.5 to 2 inches of rain have fallen along the Alaska Range and Talkeetna Mountains so far today, with about 0.5 to 1 inches in Susitna Valley. * Additional rainfall amounts of about 0.5 to 1.5 inches are forecast from now through tomorrow afternoon. * These rainfall totals likely won't be high enough for widespread flooding, but smaller tributaries draining the Talkeetnas including Willow Creek and the Little Susitna may reach bankfull. Hydrologic Concerns: * Many lower locations along rivers such as gravel bars and other spots popular for camping and recreating may become inundated with water with rivers reaching bankfull conditions. * Heavy rain may result in localized ponding in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage. * WHAT...Water levels as high as 1.5 to 4.0 feet above the normal highest tide line. * WHERE...Kuskokwim Delta Coast, including Kwigillingok, Kongiganak, Kipnuk, Toksook Bay, and Tununak. * WHEN...From 1 PM Monday to 10 PM Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Coastal flooding of low lying areas and erosion are possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A low pressure system in the eastern Bering will continue to bring a strong fetch of southwesterlies into the Kuskokwim Delta Coast today and tonight. The highest water level increases will coincide with high tides this morning and this afternoon. Conditions will begin to improve overnight tonight into Wednesday morning as a strong low pressure system exits the region.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...Including the following areas, Fairbanks, North Pole, Two Rivers, Fort Wainwright, Ester, and Fox * WHEN...Through Saturday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Heavy rain may result in minor flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - The Chena River is running higher than normal and will continue to be high through the week. Showers will continue through the end of the week, with the bulk of the rainfall expected through Thursday morning. Storm total rainfall during this time will be around 0.50" to 1.00". It has been very wet lately and this amount of rain has the potential to bring the Chena and Little Chena Rivers above minor flood stage beginning Wednesday. - This means low-lying and typical flood-prone areas may experience areas of flooding from Wednesday through the end of the week as water levels gradually rise then fall. In addition, while we are not expecting much flooding away from rivers, streams and creeks, as the ground is already saturated and may struggle to hold more water. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...Including the following areas, Upper Kuskokwim Valley. This includes the cities of McGrath, Nikolai, And Takotna. * WHEN...Through Friday afternoon. * IMPACTS...The Kuskokwim River is currently at bankfull. Soils remain moist and excessive runoff may result in localized flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, other low-lying areas and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Rain should continue through Wednesday afternoon with storm total rainfall expected to be around 1 to 2 inches. Minor pooling/ponding of water in low-lying and flood prone areas is possible with the already saturated ground conditions beginning on Tuesday. ESFAFG ...Locations Impacted... Middle Yukon Valley, Lower Koyukuk Valley, Lower Yukon Valley, and Innoko Valley. Across western Alaska, widespread 24 hour rainfall totals of between 0.75 1.00 inches were reported through Noon Tuesday. Additional totals of 0.25 to 0.75" are possible with some locations potentially seeing an additional 1.25 inches of additional rainfall through Wednesday. While the Yukon river should be able to manage much of the additional water, smaller streams and rivers that feed these systems could experience some minor flooding over the next few days.
