...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FOR THE SANDIA/MANZANO MOUNTAINS AND NORTHEAST AND EAST CENTRAL NM SATURDAY DUE TO STRONG WINDS, LOW HUMIDITY, AND ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES... ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FOR NORTHEAST AND EAST CENTRAL NM SUNDAY DUE TO STRONG WINDS, LOW HUMIDITY, AND ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES... .Southwest winds will strengthen Saturday across eastern New Mexico as an upper level storm system approaches from the Great Basin. The combination of strong winds, single digit humidity, and above normal temperatures will increase the risk for critical fire weather conditions. Southwest to west winds will strengthen even further into Sunday. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Red Flag Warning...which is in effect from 11 AM to 7 PM MST Saturday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AREA AND TIMING...Northeast Plains (Zone 104), Northeast Highlands (Zone 123), Central Highlands (Zone 125), and East Central Plains (Zone 126) Saturday afternoon through early evening and again late Sunday morning through early evening. * 20 FOOT WINDS...For Saturday, southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. For Sunday, southwest to west 30 to 40 mph with gusts near 55 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...6 to 12 percent Saturday then 9 to 14 percent Sunday. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Blowing dust producing low visibility will be likely near any source locations.

Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Erratic high wind gusts will be possible along the east slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains Sunday morning.
