At 100 AM EST, Doppler radar was tracking a snow squall with strong and potentially damaging winds along a line extending from Conneaut to Akron. Movement was east at 45 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph, visibility rapidly dropping to one quarter of a mile or less, a quick snow accumulation on area roadways, and a flash freeze of wet roadways as temperatures drop behind the line of snow squalls. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...A rapid drop in visibility and quick accumulation of snow on roads will make travel conditions hazardous. Strong wind gusts will blow around unsecured objects and may cause scattered tree damage, resulting in a few power outages. Locations impacted include... Erie, Meadville, Corry, Edinboro, Titusville, North East, Union City, Girard, Cambridge Springs, Waterford, Albion, Linesville, Wattsburg, Adamsville, Pymatuning Central, Riceville, Harmonsburg, Guys Mills, Pymatuning North, and Atlantic.

HAZARDS...A band of heavy snow accompanied by winds of up to 30 MPH which can rapidly reduce visibility to less than one mile. LOCATION AND MOVEMENT...At 1257 AM EST, a band of heavy snow was along a line extending from 16 miles southeast of Punxsutawney to 11 miles east of Waynesburg and moving east at 45 MPH. LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE... Johnstown, Somerset, Windber, Ebensburg, Belmont, Portage, Northern Cambria, Curwensville, Geistown, Meyersdale, Patton, Cresson, Gallitzin, and Loretto. For those driving on Interstate 80, this includes areas between the Woodland and Kylertown exits, specifically near mile marker 132. This includes The Pennsylvania Turnpike from mile markers 101 to 130. SAFETY INFO... Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this band of heavy snow. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads may lead to accidents.

Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Embedded snow squalls may reduce visibility to near zero at times Thursday morning. Winds will become increasingly gusty Thursday, as the event transitions to lake effect snow.

* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Snow accumulations between 10 and 20 inches, with higher amounts possible where bands are most persistent. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph, especially tonight and Thursday morning. * WHERE...Crawford County. * WHEN...Until 1 AM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Near-blizzard conditions are expected late tonight and Thursday morning. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact the commutes from Thursday morning through Friday evening. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and power lines. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An Arctic front will cross the region tonight and will bring a band of heavier snow with quickly deteriorating conditions, including a quick inch or two of snow, visibility of 1/4 mile or less, and wind gusts to 50 mph. Travel could quickly become difficult across the region with the onset of this winter event. The strongest winds are expected late tonight and Thursday morning, when near-blizzard conditions are expected. Lake effect snow bands will develop and be the main concern for the rest of the event through Thursday with some lingering snow on Friday. Additionally, the gusty winds and density of the large snowpack across far northern Crawford County could result in damage to structures.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions. Snow accumulations of 10 to 18 inches north of I-90 increasing to 12 to 20 inches with locally higher amounts south of I-90. Wind gusts up to 60 MPH north of I-90 and up to 50 MPH south of I-90, mainly Thursday morning. * WHERE...Northern Erie and Southern Erie Counties. * WHEN...Until 1 AM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities will drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Significant drifting of snow is likely, including across some roadways. The strong winds may cause downed trees and power outages. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel is expected to be impossible late tonight and Thursday and should be postponed. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An Arctic front will cross the region tonight and will bring a band of heavier snow with quickly deteriorating conditions, including a quick inch or two of snow, visibility of 1/4 mile or less, and wind gusts to 50 mph. Travel could quickly become difficult across the region with the onset of this winter event. The strongest winds and blizzard conditions are expected late tonight through midday Thursday. Lake effect snow bands will develop Thursday afternoon and be the main concern for the rest of the event through Friday as wind gusts slowly diminish. The strong winds and density of the large snowpack across Northwest Pennsylvania could result in damage to structures.

...SNOW SQUALL POTENTIAL INCREASES EARLY THURSDAY AND CAN IMPACT MORNING COMMUTE... Wind gusts of 40 MPH are possible from this afternoon through Thursday afternoon. Some locally higher gusts of 45 to 50 mph will be possible this evening. These winds may blow around loose or light weight objects such as decorations, in particular inflatable decorations. A cold front is expected to advance late tonight into early Thursday morning. Snow squalls and rapidly dropping temperatures can cause travel impacts. While accumulations will generally be less than an inch, quick bursts of snow will lead to reductions in visibility. Cold conditions are expected Thursday morning with wind chill values between 0 and 5 degrees.
