* WHAT...The South Coast AQMD has issued an air quality alert due to harmful levels of windblown dust and ash. * WHERE...Windblown dust in parts of Riverside County and windblown ash southwest of the Palisades and Eaton impact zones. Winds may also disperse ash from the Hurst, Kenneth, Line, Airport, and Bridge fire burn scars. Pollution levels can vary by time and location depending on emissions and local weather conditions. * WHEN...7 AM through 6 PM Thursday.. * IMPACTS...Particle pollution can get deep into the lungs and cause serious health problems such as asthma attacks, heart and lung disease symptoms, and increased risk of respiratory infections. Everyone can be affected, but sensitive groups such as people with lung or heart disease, older adults, people who are pregnant, children, and those who spend a lot of time outdoors are at greater risk.

* WHAT...The South Coast AQMD has issued an air quality alert due to increased fine particle pollution from wildfire smoke and windblown dust and ash. * WHERE...Wildfire smoke is expected to most heavily impact the San Gabriel Mountains, the I-5 Corridor near Castaic Lake, and Santa Clarita. Other areas that may also be impacted include the San Fernando Valley and coastal areas including Malibu and Pacific Palisades. Windblown ash is expected southwest of the Palisades and Eaton impact zones. Winds may also disperse ash from the Hurst, Kenneth, Line, Airport, and Bridge fire burn scars. Levels of particle pollution can vary by time and location depending on fire activity, emissions and local weather conditions. * WHEN...Wildfire smoke until 10 PM Thursday. The Ventura County Air Pollution Control District has issued an air quality alert due to increased particulate matter from wildfire smoke in Fillmore/Piru, Santa Paula, Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, the Conejo Valley, and Simi Valley/Moorpark. The air quality alert is in effect until 12:00 pm Friday January 24, 2025. Localized air quality could fluctuate depending on wind conditions. Particulate matter can vary hour by hour and change frequently; at times producing unhealthy air quality in Ventura County. Forecast AQI colors are meant to be as representative as possible for the 24-hour day. Air quality may fluctuate and is likely to be better or worse than is indicated for the full day. Exposure to particle pollution can cause serious health problems, aggravate lung disease, cause asthma attacks and acute bronchitis, and increase risk of respiratory infections. Residents are advised to use caution as conditions warrant. People with heart or lung diseases should follow their doctors advice for dealing with episodes of unhealthy air quality. Any fire that starts can grow fast and out of control. Red Flag Warnings have been extended through 10am Friday. Northeast winds will strengthen and expand either tonight or Thursday morning, with winds peaking on Thursday. Peak wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph will be common over much of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, with local gusts of 50 to 65 mph in the favored mountains. Meanwhile, extremely low humidities will persist with minimums under 10 percent over much of the area and poor overnight recoveries.
