Special Weather Statement issued April 23 at 11:21AM CDT by NWS Quad Cities IA IL

Northwesterly winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph with gusts 30 to 40 mph behind a cold front this afternoon. The strong winds will combine with relative humidity of 30 percent or lower to create an elevated fire danger. The worst conditions are expected from 2 PM to 6 PM. Please exercise caution with any activities that involve outdoor fires or create sparks, including campfires, grilling, and operating large equipment. In addition, drivers of vans, campers, trailers, and other high profile vehicles should be extra cautious this afternoon.

ELEVATED FIRE DANGER THIS AFTERNOON Behind a cold front this afternoon, relative humidity values will fall to 25 to 30 percent as northwest winds gust over 30 mph. Given dry fuels, this will elevate fire danger for several hours. Brush and leaf burning this afternoon should be avoided if possible, as any fires could quickly spread.
