How to use the Mayo Traffic Map
A static map with traffic flow is shown first and to start using the interactive map you press the blue Load button above to go live.

Traffic flow lines: Red/White dashed lines = Closed Road, Grey/White dashed lines = Road Work, Red lines = Heavy traffic flow, Yellow/Orange lines = Medium flow, and Green = normal traffic. Black lines or no traffic flow lines could indicate a closed road, but in most cases it means that either there is not enough vehicle flow to register or traffic isn't monitored. Also, if you do not see traffic flow, you can zoom in closer to reveal localized data. If you are unable to pan the map, press here (to focus off of the map) and try again.

Traffic Incidents: Each icon represents a traffic event or incident such as road construction, closure (red circle with a white dash), or accident. In some regions there may also be live traffic camaras to view.

In known extreme weather events or accidents, the map may still show green lines, even if lanes or the entire road are closed.

Severe Storms and Snow Impact Travel Across the U.S. - March 11 to March 13
Updated Wed Mar 11th 2026, 5:23am PDT

Commuters and travelers across the U.S. should prepare for diverse weather conditions impacting major interstates and highways. From severe storms in eastern regions to snow in the Great Lakes, and heavy rains in the Pacific Northwest, road conditions will vary greatly. Expect delays from possible flooding on routes stretching from the Ohio Valley to the Gulf Coast, while snow and ice may cause disruptions in northern states. The west coast will experience heavy rain and snow, affecting major travel routes. It's a week to stay alert and plan ahead if you’re on the road.

Severe Storms from Ohio Valley to Gulf Coast

Today, we can expect widespread thunderstorms and showers affecting key routes such as I-70, I-75, and I-40. These storms will stretch from the Ohio Valley, impacting roads through Columbus, OH and Louisville, KY, down to the Gulf Coast near Houston, TX. Severe weather conditions, including large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes, are a significant threat. Flash flooding is possible, so stay cautious and avoid driving on flooded roads.

Wintry Mix from Great Lakes to Northern New England

Travelers in the northern regions should brace for wintry conditions today, especially if using I-90, I-94, or I-95. Snow is expected from the Great Lakes through Chicago, IL and into northern Maine. More snow is expected on Thursday as another system moves across this region, with potential travel disruptions due to snow accumulation and ice on roads.

Heavy Rain and Snow in Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest will experience an active weather pattern, with heavy rains affecting coastal routes like US 101, and significant snowfall in higher elevations impacting highways such as I-90 and I-84. Areas around Seattle, WA and Portland, OR will likely experience road delays due to potential flooding and blizzard-like conditions in the mountains.

Warm Temperatures and Fire Risks in the Plains

In the central and southern Plains, warm temperatures today could result in fire weather risks around areas like Denver, CO and Amarillo, TX. Gusty winds and dry conditions mean travelers should remain vigilant, particularly on highways such as I-70 and I-40, where fire risks are elevated.
