Blizzard Warning issued April 18 at 3:53PM AKDT until April 19 at 6:00AM AKDT by NWS Anchorage AK
* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected for Toksook Bay. Total snow accumulations of up to two to four inches. A mix of freezing rain and snow is possible near Bethel with light icing. * WHERE...Kuskokwim Coast, mainly in the Toksook Bay area. * WHEN...Until 7 AM AKDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Toksook Bay continues to see snow and gusty conditions this afternoon with visibility down to one quarter mile. Winds will remain elevated through the morning hours on Friday and guidance suggests snow will also persist or redevelop through the overnight hours. Thus, blizzard conditions will also continue off and on through tonight. Deteriorated conditions may briefly spread into Nunivak Island and Mekoryuk on Friday morning before winds region wide diminish and snow gradually comes to an end. Finally, temperatures have dropped to below freezing in Bethel with rain reported. A mix of freezing rain and snow will be possible into tonight with light icing on surfaces.

* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to six inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. Reduced visibility down to one half mile or less at times. * WHERE...Eastern Aleutians. * WHEN...Until 8 AM AKDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Gusty north winds up to 50 mph will reduce visibility within falling snow down to one half mile or less at times. By this evening precipitation should transition to all snow and persist through the morning hours on Friday. Conditions ease Friday morning as winds diminish and warming daytime temperatures see any remaining snow begin to transition back to a rain/snow mix.

Periods of heavy rainfall combined with high tides could bring flooding to low lying areas near Kodiak City. Low lying roads and homes near Bells Flats and coastal roads crossing rivers and streams could experience flooding, especially during high tide. * WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Low lying areas around Kodiak City including Bells Flats and coastal roadways connecting to Kodiak City. * WHEN...Until 330 PM AKDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. Possible isolated landslides in areas of steep terrain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 332 PM AKDT, satellite estimates and rain gauge data indicate heavy rain across the advisory area. This will cause small stream flooding in addition to overflowing of poor drainage areas. - Additional rainfall of up to 3 inches will be possible through Saturday morning. Periods of moderate to heavy rain over the past 24 hours have saturated the hillsides around Kodiak. Some landslides have already been reported. Additional rainfall of 2-3 inches is possible through early Saturday. Movement of saturated soils and areas of overburden are possible as rainfall continues in the area. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...The following area, Kodiak Island. This includes the city of Kodiak City. * WHEN...Through Saturday morning. * IMPACTS...Periods of moderate to excessive rainfall has resulted in saturated soils across the watch area and may cause possible landslides in areas of steep terrain. Small streams and rivers could see considerable rises and some flooding is also possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A large area of moisture will continue to move into Kodiak Island over the next 48 hours. An additional 2-3 inches of rainfall is possible in the watch area through Saturday morning. - Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood - Stay away from steep barren hillsides due to the landslide danger.
