Patchy dense fog has formed across the IL river valley from I-55 westward in the last few hours. The fog will likely become more widespread further east toward highway 51 during the next few hours as clouds decrease some. Visibility may fall to a quarter mile or less at times through early morning, leading to potentially hazardous travel conditions. Be sure to slow down if you encounter dense fog. Use low beam headlights if driving, and leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you. The fog should lift by mid morning across central and west central IL.
