Southern Stoddard County in southeastern Missouri... * Until 800 PM CST. * At 334 PM CST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Rain will turn to snow during this evening over central IL. A brief period of freezing rain and sleet will occur before the rain changes to snow during this evening. The light snow should diminish during overnight, lasting longest in eastern IL. Between a half and 1 inch of snow is expected, with locally 1 to 2 inches possible especially in east central IL. A light glaze of ice is also possible mainly from Jacksonville to Bloomington southeast. Untreated roads will become slippery tonight especially as temperatures drop below freezing after dark.

This may be a major, potentially historic, flash flood event. * WHAT...Significant and widespread flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. Wintry precipitation will develop across the area early this evening. The precipitation may onset briefly as a wintry mix across parts of the area, before changing to all snow during the evening. Periods of mainly light snow will then continue into the overnight hours, before tapering off from west to east after 3 am. While significant snow amounts are not expected, some slick travel conditions may develop due to snow covered roads, particularly on untreated and secondary streets.

A band of lake effect snow will develop along the Wisconsin shore of Lake Michigan this evening, then swing southward across the northeastern Illinois and far northwestern Indiana shores after midnight. This band of snow looks to remain progressive, which should limit its duration at any given location across the far northeastern Illinois shore. Nevertheless, some light accumulations and slick travel may result in some localized areas near the lake into early Sunday morning. The lake effect band is expected to become focused across northwestern Indiana Sunday morning, before shifting east of the area Sunday afternoon.
