Pilot Mountain Warnings, Watches and Advisories
SAFETY and DATA MESSAGE
Do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water depth or fast flowing water/mud/debris from a flash flood will make road conditions unsafe. Do not rely soley on data presented here or other third-party websites - always check your official national and local weather service agency website, socials, radio and/or TV stations for making critical decisions related to weather events.
Please carefully read each posted Warning and Alert as it relates to the area(s) being affected. We may provide a wider range of issued severe weather warnings for surrounding cities and counties, so some alerts may not directly impact this location. Special Weather Statement
Special Weather Statement issued January 23 at 7:47PM EST by NWS Wilmington NC
Refreezing of melted ice and snow will create patchy black ice on area roads tonight and early Friday morning. Icy spots could form on paved surfaces such as bridges and overpasses, primary and secondary roads, parking lots, sidewalks and driveways. Black ice is difficult to see and distinguish from dry surfaces. The deceptive nature of black ice can catch you unaware while you are driving or walking, causing you to lose control of your motor vehicle or to slip and fall.

Special Weather Statement
Special Weather Statement issued January 23 at 2:42PM EST by NWS Raleigh NC
Refreezing of snowmelt and areas of runoff will create slippery spots and patches of black ice over portions of the Coastal Plain tonight, starting around sunset, and persisting through Friday morning. These slippery areas on roads, especially on bridges, and on sidewalks may make driving and walking hazardous this evening through Friday morning. Motorists are advised to slow down and use extra caution this evening through early Friday. Roadways that appear just wet may be covered in black ice. If walking outside, take care with the first steps taken on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways, as these surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing the risk of falling and injury. Air temperatures are expected to rise above freezing between 9 AM and 10 AM Friday morning.

Special Weather Statement
Special Weather Statement issued January 23 at 2:00PM EST by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC
Snow and ice that melts on area roads today will quickly refreeze this evening, creating a renewed risk of icy and snow-packed roads through Friday morning. While travel may improve some during the daylight hours, conditions will quickly deteriorate after sunset. For shaded areas along roadways, sudden changes in road conditions can be expected, even during the daylight hours. Motorists are advised to use extra caution. Allow ample distance between yourself and other vehicles, to avoid the risk of a collision where slippery conditions are encountered. Allow extra time to reach your destination safely.
