Flood Advisory
Spartanburg, SC
Flood Advisory issued October 10 at 8:19PM EDT until October 11 at 8:00AM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Spartanburg County in upstate South Carolina... * WHEN...Until 800 AM EDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 803 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm producing torrential rainfall is quickly moving from south to north across the county. This torrential rainfall is occurring on top of saturated soils due to a prolonged period of light to moderate showers that have occurred over the county since this morning. Widespread, storm-total rainfall of the 2.5-3.5 inches have fallen over the past 12 hours. The rainfall has accumulated steadily, allowing soils to slowly saturate and runoff to slowly increase, resulting in steady rises in the small streams. However, this brief period of torrential rainfall is causing more rapid rises to develop, including along Lawsons Fork Creek from Inman to Spartanburg, the South Pacolet River near Campobello, the North Tyger River near Wellford and Lyman, and small tributaries to these rivers including Jordan Creek, Motlow Creek, and Meadow Creek. Isolated out-of-bank conditions are likely to develop over the next 1-3 hours. Glendale Fire Department is reporting nuisance flooding along Country Club Rd near Church St. Please obey all barricades and avoid flooded roadways. Only a few inches of water can strand your vehicle. - Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms may develop over the next few hours and the threat will persist through the early morning hours on Sunday. These showers and storms will be very efficient at producing heavy rainfall. Soils are saturated and streams are swollen. Therefore, additional heavy rain may quickly create new areas of flooding and cause previous areas of flooding to redevelop. As a result, Flash Flood Warnings may be issued tonight. Caution is advised near any stream or other vulnerable area. Seek higher ground immediately if heavy rain develops. Please have a plan in place should flash flooding develop and do not hesitate to act. Please heed all evacuation orders from Emergency Management officials. - Some locations that may experience flooding include... Spartanburg, Greer, Boiling Springs SC, Woodruff, Duncan, Lyman, Pacolet, Landrum, Cowpens and Wellford. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

SAFETY and DATA MESSAGE
When a severe thunderstorm warning is issued, the storm may produce damaging winds, large hail, dangerous lightning, and heavy rain. In some cases, heavy rainfall produced by a severe storm can also lead to flash flooding. Do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water depth or fast flowing water/mud/debris from a flash flood will make road conditions unsafe. Do not rely soley on data presented here or other third-party websites - always check your official national and local weather service agency website, socials, radio and/or TV stations for making critical decisions related to weather events.
Please carefully read each posted Warning and Alert as it relates to the area(s) being affected. We may provide a wider range of issued severe weather warnings for surrounding cities and counties, so some alerts may not directly impact this location. This is done to help with preparing for severe weather that may overlap or be heading towards Rains.
Use the Radar Maps link provided to understand the trajectory of a storm.
For more official information about severe storms and how to stay safe, visit the National Weather Service's Severe Thunderstorm Safety page. We encourage you to also monitor Excessive Rainfall Forecasts on their Weather Prediction Center website.
