At 758 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 8 miles north of Huntersville, or near Davidson, moving northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Cornelius, Mooresville, Davidson, Ramsey Creek Park, and Lake Norman.

Flood Advisory

Flood Advisory issued May 23 at 7:56PM EDT until May 23 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC

The Flood Advisory will expire at 8 PM EDT this evening for a portion of western North Carolina, including the following areas, Henderson and Transylvania. Flood waters have receded. Flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat. The heavy rain has ended for the next couple of hours; however, another round of moderate to heavy rainfall is possible later this evening. Please stay weather aware as streams are running high and new areas of flooding may develop.

At 743 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Etowah, or 10 miles northeast of Benton, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... South central Rowan County in the Piedmont of North Carolina... * Until 800 PM EDT. * At 716 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles northeast of Downtown Concord, or 4 miles northwest of Mt Pleasant, moving northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines. * Locations impacted include... Granite Quarry, Rockwell, Mt Pleasant, Faith, and Gold Hill.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Northeastern Catawba County and west central Iredell County in North Carolina. * WHEN...Until 1000 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 657 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated gauges indicated torrential rain due to a slow-moving thunderstorms over small streams that feed the Catawba River near the Lake Norman Inlet just west of Troutman and south of Statesville. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen over the past 60 minutes. Resultant excess runoff may result in nuisance flooding across the Advisory area. The areas of primary concern include along Powder Spring Branch near Pineville Rd, Ball Creek near Hudson Chapel Rd, and Reeder Creek near Eufola. An additional 1-1.5 of rain may occur across the Advisory area, especially closer to Stateville as the storms move across the city. This may cause additional areas of isolated to scattered areas of nuisance poor-drainage flooding to develop. - Nuisance flooding may occur near or within the following locations... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Northeastern Burke County and northwestern Catawba County in North Carolina * WHEN...Until 930 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 629 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to slow-moving thunderstorms over Hickory and along US 70 west towards Longview, Hildebran, and Icard. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen over the past 30-45 minutes, especially over Hickory, where a few gauges have reported 0.60-0.90 inches of rainfall in as little as 15 minutes. Resultant excess runoff may result in nuisance to flooding across the Advisory area. The areas of primary concern include within Hickory, especially from downtown to the south and east, affecting Miller Branch near Tate Blvd, Herman Branch near Adam St, and Longview Creek near 19th St SW. - And additional inch of rain may occur as a final round of storms train over the Advisory area. This may exacerbate ongoing flooding or cause new flooding to develop. Avoid all area streams and flooded roadways. - Nuisance to Minor flooding may occur near or within the following locations... Hickory, Newton, St. Stephens, Conover, Longview, Icard, Hildebran, Rhodhiss, Mountain View, Hickory Regional Airport, Lake Hickory, Lake Rhodhiss, Northlakes and Oxford. - Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Southeast Caldwell County in North Carolina * WHEN...Until 915 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 609 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to training thunderstorms. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen in the past 60-75 minutes over Rhodhiss and Granite Falls. Resultant excess runoff may result in nuisance to Minor flooding across the Advisory area. The areas of greatest concern include along Gunpowder Creek near and within Granite Falls, where urbanized flooding of poor-drainage areas is imminent. Also of concern is Hayes Mill Creek near Dry Ponds Rd and Helton Rd and Billy Branch near Dudley Shoals Rd. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain may exacerbate ongoing flooding or cause new areas of flooding to develop. - Nuisance to Minor flooding may occur near or within the following locations.... Hickory, Sawmills, Granite Falls, Hudson, Rhodhiss, Lake Rhodhiss, Lake Hickory and Northlakes. - Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 601 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to training thunderstorms over the headwaters of Little River near Penrose and Little River as well as feeder streams into the French Broad River near Brevard, Pisgah Forest, and Penrose. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen over the past 60 minutes. Some locations within the Advisory area have seen up to 2 inches of rain in less than 45 minutes. Resultant excess runoff may result in nuisance flooding across the Advisory area. The areas of primary concern include along the lower reach of Crab Creek and Big Branch near Crab Creek Rd and Cascade Lake Rd, Glade Creek and Lyday Creek near Old Hendersonville Hwy and Williams Rd and other low-lying and poor drainage areas near Penrose, Brevard, and Pisgah Forest. - And additional inch of rain may occur as a final round of storms train over the Advisory area. This may exacerbate ongoing flooding or cause new flooding to develop. Avoid all area streams and flooded roadways. - Nuisance flooding may occur near or within the following locations... * WHAT...Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown Wilmington. * WHEN...From 9 PM this evening to 1 AM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Portions of Battleship Road and USS North Carolina Road observe minor coastal flooding up to one half foot in depth. In downtown Wilmington, a block of Water Street observes minor flooding up to one quarter foot in depth.
