HAZARDS...A lake effect snow band which can rapidly reduce visibility to less than a quarter of a mile. This lake effect snow band is producing heavy snowfall rates of around 1 inch per hour. LOCATION AND MOVEMENT...At 517 AM EST, a lake effect snow band was along a line extending from near New Ashford to Ames and moving southeast at 20 MPH. LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE... Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Rotterdam, Cohoes, Watervliet, Rensselaer, Colonie, Latham, Delmar, Guilderland, Duanesburg, Menands, Voorheesville, Green Island, Berlin, Altamont, Sharon Springs, Delanson, and New Ashford. This includes the following highways... Interstate 88 between exits 23 and 25. Interstate 90 between exits 9 and 25a. Interstate 890 between exits 7 and 9. Interstate 87 between exits 23 and 7. Interstate 787 between exits 1 and 9. SAFETY INFO... Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.

* WHAT...West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. * WHERE...Portions of western Massachusetts, east central and eastern New York, and southern Vermont. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EST this evening. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong winds along with the weight of snow and ice on trees will lead to an increased risk of downed trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.
