Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement issued April 16 at 11:27AM CDT by NWS Green Bay WI

East winds are expected to increase to 15 to 30 mph with gusts around 40 mph this afternoon. Along the Interstate 39 corridor in southern Portage and western Waushara counties, from south of Plower to Coloma the strong easterly winds could produce localized areas of blowing dust which may reduce visibilities for motorists. Showers and scattered storms will move into the area by early evening, ending the risk of blowing dust. If you encounter areas of blowing dust, slow down and allow extra room between you and the car in front of you.

Dry conditions and breezy winds will lead to near critical fire weather conditions today. Easterly winds will increase through the day and gusts of 30 to 40 mph are expected this afternoon along with low humidity from 20 to 25 percent. Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement issued April 16 at 4:01AM CDT by NWS Green Bay WI

Elevated fire weather conditions will persist across northern Wisconsin during the afternoon. Mild temperatures and low relative humidity will continue as east winds increase and gust to 30 to 45 mph this afternoon. Rain will arrive tonight, and bring a temporary end to the fire concerns. Persons are urged to be careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a wildland fire. Campfires, outdoor grills, smoking materials, chain saws, and all-terrain vehicles all have the potential to throw a spark and ignite a fire. Burning bans are in effect across most of the area, so be sure to heed any restrictions that are in place in your county.
