Flood Advisory

Flood Advisory issued May 14 at 1:52PM EDT until May 14 at 5:00PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of piedmont North Carolina, including the following county, Mecklenburg. * WHEN...Until 500 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. River or stream flows are elevated, mainly in northern and western portions of Charlotte. This includes Mallard Creek, which could brief overflow its banks into the PNC Music Pavillion parking lot as well as low-lying areas along Pavillion Boulevard. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 144 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain showers continuing across Charlotte and vicinity. Minor flooding and elevated stream levels are already occurring in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen since this morning. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Uptown Charlotte, North Charlotte, West Charlotte, Hidden Valley, Paw Creek, University City, Charlotte Douglas Airport and Croft. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...The beaches from Cape Hatteras to Surf City. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong rip currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide, which will occur around 7:30 PM this evening.
