Flood Advisory issued May 8 at 8:24PM EDT until May 8 at 9:30PM EDT by NWS Wilmington NC

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of southeast North Carolina, including the following county, Robeson. * WHEN...Until 930 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 824 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding may be ongoing in the advisory area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.2 inches are expected over the area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Lumberton, Pembroke, Hestertown, Barker Ten Mile, Howellsville, Elrod, Prospect, Smiths, and Raemon. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents and strong longshore currents in the surf zone. * WHERE...The beaches from Cape Hatteras to Cape Lookout. * WHEN...From Thursday morning through Thursday evening. * IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Strong longshore currents will create dangerous swimming conditions. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong rip currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide, which will occur around 2:00 PM Thursday.

* WHAT...Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown Wilmington. * WHEN...Until 1 AM EDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...The lowest portions of USS North Carolina Road and Battleship Road may observe minor coastal flooding. Water begins to spread out of storm drains onto Water Street just south of Market Street in downtown Wilmington.
