Flash Flood Warning

Flash Flood Warning issued April 16 at 3:38PM EDT until April 16 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA

At 338 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Lansing... Whitetop... Nella... Shatley Springs... Flatwood... Clifton... Grayson Highlands State Park... This includes the following streams and drainages... Little Helton Creek, Little Phoenix Creek, Jerd Branch, Dog Creek, Little Horse Creek, Big Horse Creek, Grassy Creek, Cut Laurel Creek, Helton Creek and Big Laurel Creek.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Portions of east Tennessee, including the following county, Johnson and southwest Virginia, including the following county, Washington. * WHEN...Until 445 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 253 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area.
