Red Flag Warning issued April 13 at 4:10AM CDT until April 13 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Sioux Falls SD

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from noon today to 7 PM CDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AFFECTED AREA...In Iowa, Lyon, Osceola, Dickinson, Sioux, O'Brien, Clay and Buena Vista. In Minnesota, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Cottonwood, Nobles, Jackson, Pipestone and Rock. In South Dakota, Brookings, Lake, Moody, Minnehaha and Lincoln. * WINDS...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

The combination of low relative humidity values, warm temperatures, southerly winds, and dry fuels will result in near-critical fire weather conditions this afternoon west of the Mississippi River. Afternoon relative humidity values will fall to around 25 percent with southerly winds of 15 to 20 mph, gusting to around 30 mph. Under these conditions, fires will start and spread easily. Please exercise caution with any activities that involve outdoor fires or create sparks, including campfires, grilling, and operating large equipment. Cigarettes should be disposed of and extinguished properly. Please heed any local burn bans.

Southerly winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts of 25 mph are forecast to start later this morning and continue through much of the afternoon. Minimum relative humidity values as low as 25 percent are also expected. Together, these conditions could lead to the rapid spread of fires. Check burning restrictions and fire danger before burning. In conjunction with minimum relative humidity values near 25 percent and warm maximum temperatures (70s), this will lead to an elevated risk for rapid spreading of fires. ...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS SOUTHERN MINNESOTA SATURDAY AFTERNOON... .Southerly winds 15 to 20mph with gusts of 25 to 30 mph will combine with warm temperatures in the 70s and 80s to cause elevated fire weather conditions across portions of southwest and south-central Minnesota Saturday afternoon. Afternoon humidity will fall into the 20s at most locations within the Red Flag Warning, and a few spots could reach the upper teens across southwest Minnesota. The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from noon today to 7 PM CDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AFFECTED AREA...Southwest and portions of south-central Minnesota. * WIND...South from 15 to 20 mph, gusting 25 to 30 mph. * HUMIDITY... 20 to 30 percent. * IMPACTS...any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
