When a severe thunderstorm warning is issued, the storm may produce damaging winds, large hail, dangerous lightning, and heavy rain. In some cases, heavy rainfall produced by a severe storm can also lead to flash flooding. Do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. At 1258 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Denton to near Westover to 11 miles northeast of Deltaville. Movement was east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down small trees and blow around unsecured objects. Wind impacting handling of high profile vehicles. Strong thunderstorms will be near... Salisbury, Fruitland, Pocomoke City, Salisbury University, Hebron, West Pocomoke, and Marion Station around 105 AM EDT. Delmar around 110 AM EDT. Parsonsburg around 120 AM EDT. Snow Hill, Onancock, and Parksley around 125 AM EDT. Onley around 130 AM EDT. Newark around 135 AM EDT. Other locations impacted by these storms include Hallwood, Harborton, Melfa, Brookview, Trinity, Cokesbury, Eden, Wallops Island, Nelsonia, and Sanford.

Flash Flood Warning issued September 4 at 12:24AM EDT until September 4 at 3:00AM EDT by NWS Baltimore MD/Washington DC

At 1224 AM EDT, emergency management reported multiple water rescues in the vicinity of Commonwealth Road, Glebe Road, and Wilson Avenue with multiple vehicles stalled out in high water. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 30 minutes. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Emergency management reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Arlington, Alexandria, Annandale, Springfield, Vienna, Groveton, Falls Church, Huntington, Mantua, Pimmit Hills, Crystal City, Reagan National Airport, Burke, Lincolnia, Tysons Corner, Franconia, Merrifield, Lake Barcroft, I395 and I495 Interchange and Ballston.
