Southwest and Great Basin
Heads up for those driving through Nevada and Utah today. We're expecting heavy rain due to a lingering cold front and tropical moisture, especially in the higher terrain areas. This means roads like
Interstate 80 in Nevada and
Interstate 15 in Utah could see some slick conditions due to water pooling on roads. Snow is also expected on the peaks, so travelers on mountain roads should be cautious.
Central and Southern Plains
Rain showers and thunderstorms are moving towards the Plains. Folks in Kansas City, Lubbock, and across
Interstate 70 and
Interstate 35 should prepare for the possibility of severe weather by tomorrow. Watch out for rainfall amounts of up to 2-3 inches in Missouri and Texas by Wednesday, which could cause local flooding and slowdowns on highways like
US Route 54 and
Interstate 20.
Upper Midwest to New England
Expect light showers and thunderstorms along
Interstate 90 and
Interstate 94 from the Upper Midwest to New England from tomorrow through Wednesday. Snow could accumulate in parts of Maine, especially in the Boundary and Blue Mountains, so plan ahead if you're heading through
US Route 1 in those areas.
Temperature Changes
Temperatures will vary significantly across the country. The Central and Eastern U.S. will feel quite warm, with highs reaching into the 80s and 90s. Meanwhile, the West will remain much cooler under the upper-low, with highs only in the 40s and 50s. Those in the Northern Plains and New England should brace for cooler conditions as a front moves through in the next 48 hours.
