CONUS - Weather Changes Expected Across the U.S. from Mar 24th to Mar 26th

Updated Sun Mar 23rd 2025, 9:01pm PDT

We're in for a mix of weather changes as snow continues in the Upper Midwest and Upper Great Lakes while severe storms and heavy rains threaten the Mid-South. The Pacific Northwest will also see more rain before drying out, and we can expect warmer temperatures across the western and central U.S. Let's dive into what's happening region by region.

Snow and Severe Weather Alerts

A strong weather system is moving through the Midwest and Southeast, bringing rain, storms, and even some snow. In the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes, expect 3-6 inches of snow, with up to 8 inches possible in some areas. Northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula are under winter weather warnings until Monday morning.

The Mid-South is gearing up for storms that could bring large hail, strong winds, and even tornadoes. There's a risk for severe weather in areas like the Tennessee Valley and ArkLaTex region today through Monday. Flash flooding is a concern too, as heavy rains may repeat over the same spots.

Rainy Northwest and Warm West Coast

The Pacific Northwest is seeing heavy rain, especially in the Olympic Mountains and northern Cascades in Washington. There's a flood risk in these areas, so be cautious. The rain and snow will start to taper off by Monday as the weather system moves out.

In contrast, the western and central U.S. will enjoy much warmer temperatures. Expect highs in the 80s and 90s from California to the Southern Plains, with the hottest weather in the Desert Southwest. Many places might even break records!

Cool in the Northeast

Meanwhile, colder temperatures will stick around in the Great Lakes and Northeast, where highs will be in the 30s and 40s. This is thanks to the storm system passing through the area.

Stay tuned for more updates as we keep an eye on these weather changes!

US Snow - Spring Storms: Heavy Snow and Icy Conditions Expected

Updated Sun Mar 23rd 2025, 9:02pm PDT

As we head into the early part of the week, a significant weather system is moving through parts of the Pacific Northwest and the Northern Rockies, bringing heavy snowfall to higher elevations. Meanwhile, the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes regions are experiencing a strengthening winter storm, with significant snowfall expected. Over in the Northeast, snow and some ice are predicted, especially in the mountains. Stay prepared and keep an eye on local conditions as these systems progress.

Snowy Weather in the Northwest

For our friends over in Seattle, WA, an ongoing Atmospheric River—a huge flow of moisture from the Pacific—will bring plenty of wet weather. As it moves through the region, snow will fall above 6,000 to 8,000 feet in the Washington Cascades and the high mountains of Montana and Wyoming. We're looking at a medium chance (30-50%) of at least 6 inches of snow for these areas. This will continue through Monday as the moisture spreads, but things should dry out by Tuesday as a new weather pattern forms off the coast.

Wintry Mix for the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes

Folks in areas like Duluth, MN and Marquette, MI are currently experiencing a strong winter storm. With heavy snow falling at rates over an inch per hour in some places, this storm will pack a punch as it tracks toward the Great Lakes. Most areas could see over 4 inches of snow, with some spots getting up to 8 inches, especially in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Snow will continue into Monday, so be cautious if you're traveling.

Snow Moves into the Northeast

In the Northeast, including places like Burlington, VT and Portland, ME, snow will start tonight. Snow is expected across the Adirondacks, Green Mountains, and White Mountains. There's a 20-50% chance of more than 4 inches of snow in these areas. By Monday evening, Maine could see some snow as a small storm develops nearby, leading to minor snow accumulations. As the storm moves out Monday night, some lake effect snow will bring light accumulations to parts of Pennsylvania and New York.

While widespread icings are not expected, some minor ice formations may occur in parts of the northern Mid-Atlantic. Let's all stay safe and keep warm!

Alaska's Weather: Showers and Snow This Weekend

Updated Sun Mar 23rd 2025, 9:01pm PDT

Get ready, folks! As March closes, a big low-pressure system is setting up over the Gulf of Alaska, bringing some rain to the southern coast late Saturday. Meanwhile, a strong high-pressure area will form over the Aleutians, with a warm front bringing light snow to western Alaska by the end of the week. The models agree on Thursday's weather, but by the weekend, there are differences in predicting where the high will be, affecting the forecast. Although most of us will have calm weather, expect some rain and mountain snow in the southeast Panhandle and Kenai Peninsula over the weekend. Late Sunday into Monday, light snow will spread across the western mainland, with a chance of rain near the coast. Temperatures will be colder than usual on Thursday and Friday, but warmer air will arrive by next Monday, especially in the western parts.

Hawaii Weather Watch: March 24 - March 31, 2025

Updated Sun Mar 23rd 2025, 9:03pm PDT

Great news for us in Hawaii, as the weather seems pretty calm this week. Starting Sunday and Monday, our trade winds will take a bit of a break because of a front stopping just north of where we are. But don't worry! By Tuesday, those pleasant winds will start to come back from the east or southeast, bringing some refreshing breezes with them.

Early to midweek, we might see some heavy rain falling far north of us, thanks to a wavy front. But for us here on the islands, just expect some light showers mainly on the windward sides, especially as a strong upper ridge, which is like a big protective bubble, starts building from the southeast later in the week.

Looking Ahead to the Weekend

This weekend's forecast is a bit tricky. Our weather models, like the GFS which helps predict winds, have toned down their predictions. We're expecting easterly winds to continue. However, depending on how a system way to our west develops, winds might shift. Some models hint at winds coming more from the south, while others agree on easterly breezes sticking around. For now, the easterly to southeasterly winds seem most likely.

Stay Tuned

We'll keep an eye on the changes and keep you updated with any important updates. Remember, weather can be full of surprises, so it's always good to check back for the latest details!
