Weather Conditions Expected to Impact Travel from 10-28 to 10-30 2026
Updated Wed Oct 28th 2026, 7:33am PDT
Severe Thunderstorms in the Upper Mississippi Valley
Travelers along Interstate 94 and Highway 61 in the Upper Mississippi Valley should prepare for possible severe thunderstorms on Wednesday. These storms could cause delays and hazardous driving conditions, especially during the afternoon hours. It might be wise to adjust travel plans if possible to avoid the most intense weather periods.
Snow and Rain in the Pacific Northwest
Snowfall in the higher elevations of the Cascades, Northern Intermountain Region, and Northern Rockies could impact travel on Interstate 90 and Highway 2 through Thursday morning. Be prepared for slippery roads and reduced visibility in these areas. A new weather front arriving on Friday morning will bring additional rain and snow, possibly leading to further delays.
Heavy Rainfall in the Southern High Plains
On Thursday and into Friday morning, parts of the Southern High Plains are expected to experience heavy rain. Travelers on Interstate 40 and Highway 287 should watch for flash flooding in low-lying areas. Urban areas and roads are particularly vulnerable, so stay updated on local conditions before heading out.
Showers in Florida
For those in Florida, expect showers and thunderstorms through Friday, mainly affecting travel on Interstate 4 and Interstate 75. These conditions may cause short delays, especially during peak commuting hours.
Rain in the Great Lakes and Northeast
Starting Wednesday afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will move from the Northern Plains to the Upper Great Lakes, impacting roads like Interstate 94. By Thursday, this rain will extend to the Lower Great Lakes and into the Northeast, affecting Interstate 90 and Interstate 80. Prepare for possible delays and wet roads.
Southwest Rainfall
Heavy rain is expected over the Southwest on Friday, impacting travel on Interstate 10 and Highway 95. Flash flooding is possible in urban areas and small streams, so exercise caution and check local advisories.
