* WHAT...Snow with blizzard conditions and freezing rain possible. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. Visibility could be one quarter mile or less at times. Ice accumulation of a light glaze possible. * WHERE...Western Arctic Coast. * WHEN...From Tuesday afternoon through late Wednesday night. * IMPACTS...Plan on difficult travel conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Snow drifts could form. Freezing rain could make slippery travel surfaces. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow and blowing snow with winds gusting to 30 mph and low visibility are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon. Winds are expected to increase to 40 mph Tuesday night, and to 50 mph on Wednesday. Visibility will go up and down Tuesday night and Wednesday as bands of snow pass through. Winds are expected to decrease Thursday.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of up to 5 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Visibilities reduced to one quarter mile or less. * WHERE...Kuskokwim Delta coast. * WHEN...Until 7 AM AKDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A front tracks towards the Kuskokwim Delta coast by this evening. Blizzard conditions will start this evening and persist into Tuesday morning. Warming air moves in behind the front that will allow rain to mix in with snow by Tuesday afternoon. While precipitation will diminish through Tuesday, elevated winds will likely continue through Tuesday night.

Special Weather Statement issued March 18 at 1:43PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK

Strong southerly winds will result in elevated water levels along the southern Seward Peninsula coast through Wednesday. This will cause water to rise up through cracks in the sea ice and push water on top of the ice in some areas. Some coastal trails on the ice or near the shore could become inundated with water. Ice shoves may be possible for vulnerable coasts along south-facing coastlines. Residents living along the coast are encouraged to monitor current conditions before venturing out on the sea ice.
