At 339 AM MDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1 inch in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.25 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. Rain gauges in the Placitas area indicate that between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain fell between Midnight and 2 AM MDT. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Bernalillo, Corrales, Santa Ana Pueblo, Coronado State Monument, San Felipe Pueblo, Sandia Pueblo, Placitas and Algodones. This includes the following highways... Highway 550 between Mile Markers 1 and 2. Interstate 25 between Mile Markers 236 and 254.

This will cause arroyo and small stream flooding. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... This includes the Ruidoso area burn scars. * WHEN...From noon MDT today through this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Soils are very saturated from days of soaking rainfall. Rainfall rates of 1 to 1.5 inches per hour may occur with storms Friday afternoon and evening. Wildfire burn scars, urban areas, communities with underdeveloped infrastructure, complex terrain, and areas where the ground is already saturated are most at risk for rapid runoff and flash flooding. West Central Chaves County in southeastern New Mexico... * WHEN...Until 215 PM MDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Flood waters in Whitetail Canyon will flow into the Rio Felix overnight into Friday morning. Flooding of low water crossings along the Rio Felix are expected. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1026 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Impacts are expected within Whitetail Canyon, along Picacho Road, including Clements Ranch, in and along the Rio Felix. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest New Mexico, including Sierra, Dona Ana, Luna, and eastern Grant Counties and the Sacramento Mountains in northern Otero County. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, arroyos, low water crossings, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - 24-hour rainfall observations shows a wide swath of 1-2" across much of south-central New Mexico. High soil moisture will allow runoff to occur quickly with any additional rounds of rain. Thunderstorms are expected to track north across the Watch area Thursday night into Friday morning, leading to localized flash flooding.
